'Guardians of the Galaxy' Sequel: Marvel Confirms Sequel Production; August 2014 Movie, Marvel's 3rd Grossing Film
Marvel Studios are finalizing moves to come up with a sequel after the phenomenal success of the sci-fi action comedy directed by James Gunn, "Guardians of the Galaxy," released on August 2014.
According to IGN Asia, the film, starred by Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana, has grossed $732 million globally. It ranked third, next to the two other productions of Marvel Studios, "The Avengers," and "Iron Man", despite some inaccuracies of Chinese translation in the subtitles.
With such a positive start, "Guardians of the Galaxy" 2 is most likely to happen. In fact, prior to the release of "Guardians of the Galaxy" in August, Director and Writer of the said movie, James Gunn issued a statement confirming the possibility of a sequel. On July 27, he posted in his tweeter account, published on The Huffington Post, "Yes, I'm writing and directing the sequel to #GuardiansoftheGalaxy for theatres on July 28, 2017. But first go see the first one out next week!"
He allowed fans a glimpse of the forthcoming sequel, just an overview of its story as he revealed some of its highlights to Variety, saying in a playful tone that, "It's going to be a really surprising open. What happens is all the characters are killed in the first 10 minutes, in really horribly brutal fashion."
However, he also added that, "I spent all day on August 1, the day the first movie was released, writing Guardians 2. I was so excited about it and I was finally able to let go of the last one and begin the second one. I always saw this as a universe, not just as one story."
If Peter Quill and his team of space heroes captured the hearts of millions all over the world, it is just fitting that Marvel Productions must endeavour to come up with something big that fans can look forward to. Certainly, a more challenging and interesting sequel of the Guardians of the Galaxy is in order.
