NBA Trade Rumors, Reveals, News and Updates: Sacramento Kings may be Anxious to Trade Jason Thompson before Start of Next Season
Jason Thompson from the Sacramento Kings has been involved in trade rumors before and it all started when the Kings front court suddenly became quite crowded with the arrival of Rudy Gay and Derrick Williams. There may be rumblings over whether someone is becoming obsolete. Okay that is too cold. League sources mentioned to the ESPN site, the Kings have been trying to find a new home for the forward Jason Thompson who is not gelling well with the new arrivals. The fact is there are not enough minutes to around the Kings front court and apparently, Thompson happens to be too skilled to be the odd man out.
He did manage to start 61 games in the previous season, but he only managed to log about 24 minutes per contest depriving him of precious minutes needed to develop his game and maximize on rebounds and scoring ability from the mid range areas. According to Adam Fromal of Bleacher Report, "Plus, there's the matter of his contract, which was a five-year deal for $30 million signed back in the 2012 offseason. He's being paid too much money to sit on the bench for large portions of the game, but his salary situation is reasonable enough that he wouldn't be viewed as an albatross on another team."
Thompson is surely going to draw some interest around the league from teams which are looking for a quality big man like the Houston Rockets who have lost Omer Ask this off season and the Cleveland Cavaliers who are in need of adding a big guy in their rotation considering if Anderson Varejao goes down with a another injury. Similarly, Varejao may be on his way to the Pacers, after rumors implicated Hibberts coming to the team in exchange for him and Waiters. Either way, it is clear that the Kings would be comfortable chucking Thompson from the team because the chemistry is just not there anymore but they are not yet sure what kind of impact player the team is going to receive in return.
