INTERVIEW: Shonlock Discusses New Album 'A Night to Remember'
Shonlock's new album A Night to Remember is set to release on March 18th and is now available for presale on iTunes (February 18). His first single "A Night to Remember" hits CHR radio on February 21st and is available as an early download with the pre-order of the A Night to Remember CD.
A Night to Remember will be released by Arrow Records and distributed by Ingrooves and Capitol Christian Distribution on March 18. The collection spotlights the emotion and power behind the intersection where life and faith meet. With the collaboration between Shonlock and his production partners, Joshua Crosby (Owl City, Matt Kearney) and Solomon "Soul Glow Activatur" Olds (TobyMac, Family Force 5), the 10-song set features guest vocals from Ryan Clark of Demon Hunter, Olds, and longtime friend and mentor TobyMac.
We would like to thank Shonlock for taking the time to speak with us.
Hallels: How does it feel to finally be releasing your sophomore record 'A Night to Remember' next week (March 18)?
Shon: "Awesome! Excited for people to hear it."
Hallels: How would you describe your sound for people that haven't heard of you guys and what artists have influenced your sound?
Shon: "I would describe my music as Honest...if honesty has a sound lol! I couldn't name all of our influences because good music inspires so who knows who did it first lol!"
Hallels: Tell us the story behind your song, "I Like to Win"?
Shon: "I like to win" is a song about winning in all aspects of life... Spirit and the natural."
Hallels: What was your reaction when ESPN picked the song up recently?
Shon: "I was excited to have my music shared on a different platform. The NCAA March madness series is a big deal in college basketball."
Hallels: How do you feel your experience working with mainstream artists has shaped how you think and work currently on your projects?
Shon: "Well, my strive for excellence is to present a body of work that is pleasing to The Lord even."
Hallels: If you could collaborate with one Secular Artist and one Christian Artist, who would you choose?
Shon: "Switchfoot and Justin Timberlake or Ed Sheeran"
Hallels: Do you have a current scripture that has been speaking to you? If not, what are some personal favorite verses of yours?
Shon: "1Cor 12:12"
Hallels: If you guys could each play professionally for any sports team for one day, who would you guys pick?
Shon: "Professional wiffleball!"
Hallels: What are your touring plans for 2014?
Shon: "We are touring the U.S. on the "Shine A Light Tour" through the first part of April and then we head to New Zealand, Australia, Belgium and then back to Melbourne in September before a fall tour. It's going to be a big year for us!"
