Carman Shares on His Health, New Album 'No Plan B' and 2014 Touring Plans in New Interview
Carman, the popular Christian singer who has been a staple of the industry for the past 30 years, has been battling myeloma cancer since last year and has been very public about his journey. Through this trying time, his fans helped sponsor his latest album through the fund raising website Kickstarter. He exceeded his goal for the album and has been planning a concert tour for later this year.
Carman shares about his new album, No Plan B, and his extended tour that he will be embarking on. We would like to thank Carman for taking the time to speak with us.
Hallels: First off, can you give us an update on your current health?
Carman: "Feeling great. I'm running around the football field like I did years ago. It's amazing what prayer and modern medicine can do."
Hallels: How much more personal did your faith become when dealing with a life threatening illness?
Carman: "The biggest thing is the initial time before you have any hope of recovery, where you begin to plan for your departure. It's gets very personal when you realize it's just gonna be you and Jesus from this point on. Everything else is background noise."
Hallels: What was the experience like raising funds with fans rather then doing an album on a record label in the past?
Carman: "The pressure to please a bunch of executives at a record company was gone. All I had to do was make the music the people really wanted to hear. That was a huge relief."
Hallels: How was the recording process of this record different compared to previous albums?
Carman: "The biggest difference was that I had to record 80% of this record via the Internet because I was in chemotherapy treatment. That will put you to the test for sure."
Hallels: Which track on the new album would surprise fans musically?
Carman: "I did my best" It was the first time in 30 years that I played guitar on my own record."
Hallels: If you could collaborate with one Secular Artist and one Christian Artist, who would you choose?
Carman: "Secular artist would probably be Carrie Underwood; I love her voice and spirit. Christian artist would be Toby Mac. We recorded together in 1991 and it was a blast. He's really creative and so different than me. I'm sure whatever ideas he came up with would be like nothing ever heard before."
Hallels: Do you have a current scripture that has been speaking to you? Or what are some personal favorite verses of yours?
Carman: "My favorite is Heb 12:14 - you just have to look it up : ))"
Hallels: If you could play any sport professionally for a day, which team would you choose?
Carman: "I would fight in the Octagon in the UFC. It's the only sport I follow and have since it started in 93."
Hallels: What are your touring plans for this Summer 2014?
Carman: "Live Across America Presents: No Plan B Tour. I believe we are making our way across Texas and heading up to Ohio. As long as our GPS is working."
