'Black and Blue Prayers from Nashville,' Singer David Prince Protests for Black Lives with God-Given Talents

Christian independent artist David Prince Reedy recently released a new song, "Black and Blue Prayers from Nashville," featuring artists Adige, Chance Cold, Jerrold Edwards, Mr. Shouty, Cecil Raw, and Nate Bean. Incorporating hip-hop and R&B influences, David Prince and friends wrote this powerful song, inspired by the heartbreaks arisen around many recent deaths of black men by the police and its aftermath. The song was written around the time when Alton Sterling and Philando Castile were shot and killed. The music video was filmed and directed by Aaron Williams, and produced by J-Ryan the Composer.
In "Black and Blue Prayers from Nashville," these artists expressed their passion for minority justice and their struggles in melodies and raps. David Prince told his own story, being half Asian and half black. Footage of police forces and black demonstrators reeled through the music video. "We need you Lord. Heal the land," shouted David.
Bothered by the deaths caused by the police, who are supposed to protect the society, David Prince decided he had to do something.
"I'm black. I'm a Christian, and I'm a human being," wrote David in his reflection. "So I decided to do what I do best and write a song. I can use the talents and gifts that God has given me along with my influence to speak up for all of the innocent lives that have been taken." The song was inspired by Michael Jackson's "We are the World."
David Prince prays that "Black and Blue Prayers from Nashville" will be the catalyst for healing, love, peace, and justice in this country and in this world. "I still believe in us. I still have hope. I always will."
