Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt Team For 'Harvey Can't Mess With Texas' Concert

A fantastic lineup of country music's brightest stars will gather in Austin on Sept. 22 for the "Harvey Can't Mess With Texas" benefit concert. Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, Paul Simon, James Taylor, Lyle Lovett, Leon Bridges and Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, in addition to other guests are all slated to perform. The event will be live-streamed on YouTube and it will air on various Texas television affiliates as well. Google has already pledged to match the first $500,000 in donations before the concert has even taken place.
"We got lucky when Hurricane Harvey avoided Austin, but though it missed us, it hit our neighbors hard. Every time I've asked you to help our neighbors you've risen to the challenge. Now we have an opportunity to do good by being our best, and that means putting on a show and having a good time. Let's show the world what it means to be the Live Music Capital of the World in the greatest state in the Union. I'll be there and hope to see you, too." said Austin Mayor Steve Adler, when speaking on the event.
Funds raised from the event will go to the Rebuild Texas Fund, created by the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation in collaboration with the OneStar Foundation. The organization supports both short- and long-term relief efforts. It focuses on health and housing, schools and child care, workforce and transportation and capital for small businesses. The organization is hoping to ultimately raise $100 million for Harvey relief efforts and as of now they are already more than halfway there!
It seems that the U.S. and its' surrounding areas have been hit with one catastrophic weather event after another these last few weeks. It's encouraging to see so many recovery and restoration organizations in action, isn't it?
