'Maleficent' Marks Angelina Jolie's Highest Grossing Film, See How Much It Has Made
Angelina Jolie has hit a new milestone with her new film Maleficent that co-stars Elle Fanning. It has become Angelina's highest grossing film, earning over $520 million worldwide to date. The movie has held strong in the box office and renewed Jolie as a star that can carry a movie. The Disney film topped all movies opening weekend and grossed over $70 million and hasn't stopped earning since.
Maleficent is a new 'dark' fantasy film directed by Robert Stromberg. Angelina Jolie plays Maleficent and Elle Fanning as Aurora(Sleeping Beauty) in a new look on a Disney classic.
Official Plot: "Maleficent is the untold story of Disney's most iconic villain from the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty. A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land's fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal - an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king's successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom - and perhaps to Maleficent's true happiness as well."
Maleficent also stars Sharito Copley, Brenton Thwaites, Juno Temple, Sam Riley, Miranda Richardson, Imelda Staunton and others. The film is written by Paul Dini and Linda Woolverton and produced by Don Hahn and Joe Roth. The film had a budget of $200 million under Walt Disney Studios and Motion Pictures.
