“Mali Is… ” Debuts At #2 on Billboard Top R&B/Hip Hop Album Chart

On June 25 2014, Mali Music's "Mali Is... " made a splash on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip Hop Album when it entered the chart at #2 and #16 on the Billboard 200 Album chart. Released on the 17th of June, "Mali Is..." also hit the #1 slot on both the iTunes R&B/Soul and Amazon R&B mp3 charts, which helped the album score the #5 spot on the Billboard Digital Albums chart.
Previously known for his God-centered songs such as "Yahweh", "All I Have to Give", and Conqueror", Mali Music also has songs like, "I Hate You", "Impulses" and "Job Experience." However, "Mali Is..." is Mali Music's first foray into the major markets with his major label (RCA Records) debut.
The album is preceded by the single "Beautiful." "Beautiful" has already gone viral among fans after he has performed on American Idol and on The View. It has got people asking, "Where did this guy come from and why haven't we heard of him before?" The song "Beautiful" is a dedication to the beauty of people who manage to stay hopeful and resilient in spite of the vicissitudes of life.
With its simple piano loops, smooth beats and organic feel, Mali Music is certainly carving its own niche the way Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye and John Mellencamp did a generation or two ago. Chart wise, "Beautiful" has peaked at Top 10 on the BDS Urban Adult Contemporary chart. Further, Mali Music has recently premiered the official "Beautiful (Dirty Harry Remix)" featuring A$AP Ferg on Hypetrak, which is currently available for purchase at iTunes.
In addition to its chart success, "Mali Is..." received positive reviews from press as well. Artist Direct called the album, "...a masterpiece and one of the best albums of 2014." The New York Times referred to the track "Fight for You" as a "...modern R&B number with desperate love at its core."
