George Strait Calls for Prayers Following Joe Diffie's Death

Veteran country music superstar George Strait is calling fans to pray for those suffering from the coronavirus after receiving news that fellow country artist Joe Diffie has died. Diffie died on Sunday two days after being tested positive for coronavirus. Strait remembers Joe Diffie as a tremendous talent.
"We've lost one of our own now to this silent enemy," Strait writes. "That really hit home to me. I worked with Joe in the past. Great guy and hugely talented singer and entertainer. Let's pray for his family and for all those who are affected by this terrible virus."
Diffie died on Sunday after revealing he'd been diagnosed on Friday (March 27). He leaves behind his wife of nearly two years and five children from his four marriages. Strait took to Facebook partially to rally his fans during a dark time, but also to encourage social distancing.
"We are going to win," he writes. "Please stay home, healthy and well. Pray for your family, friends, first responders, health care providers, our President and the world."
Back in the 90s, Diffie was a tour de force on the country music charts. He scored a total of 17 Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Diffie, who recently celebrated his 25th anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry, is best known for such No. 1s as "Home," "If The Devil Danced (In Empty Pockets)," "Third Rock From The Sun," "Pickup Man" and "Bigger Than The Beatles."
On Billboard's Top Country Albums, Diffie charted 12 titles from 1990 through 2013, including two top 10s: 1993's Honky Tonk Attitude and 1994's Third Rock From the Sun. The sets reached Nos. 10 and 6, respectively.
