Ariana Grande Nickelodeon Comedy Show 'Sam & Cat' Co-starring Jennette McCurdy Get Canceled After Behind-the-Scenes Drama
Nickelodeon has officially canceled the live-action comedy show "Sam & Cat" starring Ariana Grande and Jennette McCurdy after a long hiatus.
There were reported behind-the-scenes drama and conflicts which delayed the show from progressing forward.
"Nickelodeon will not be producing more episodes of Sam & Cat," a network spokesperson tells The Hollywood Reporter in a statement. "We are very proud of the show and its very talented cast and we wish them all the best."
Grande took to Facebook Sunday afternoon to share her thoughts on the show cancellation writing, "I want to thank Nickelodeon for making a childhood dream of mine come true, for being a family to me, for being so accommodating and supportive of my multitasking with my music career, and for of course introducing me to many of my fans however many years ago."
The show did great at the 2014 Kids' Choice Awards, where "Sam & Cat" took home the TV comedy prize, while Grande won TV comedy actress.
The June 8, 2013, The "Sam & Cat" series debut on June 8, 2013 was Nickelodeon's biggest live-action launch in three years, with 4.2 million viewers tuning in. McCurdy had contract disputes and also had racy pictures leak online this past year, which could have slowed down the talks of a Season 2 on Nickelodeon.
"Sam & Cat" starring McCurdy and Grande were given a giant 40-episode Season 1 last July after only four episodes. It was a spinoff of Victorious and iCarly, the series follows Sam (McCurdy) and Cat (Grande) as they become best friends and unlikely roommates who start a babysitting service. Sam & Cat reruns will remain on Nickelodeon's schedule.
Grande released her debut album, Yours Truly, in 2013 and debuted atop the Billboard 200 charts and her sophomore album, My Everything, hits stores Aug. 25.
