Carrie Underwood Replaces Herself Atop Hot Christian Songs
Seven time GRAMMY-Award winner Carrie Underwood is #1 on Billboard's Hot Christian Song chart this week. Underwood's duet with John Legend "Hallelujah" is not only at the pole position, she has replaced herself on the #1 spot. As "Hallelujah" hits No. 1, Underwood replaces herself in the penthouse. Her "Favorite Time of Year" dips to No. 2 following two weeks on top.
"Hallelujah" is Underwood's third Christian #1 song and Legend's first. Underwood becomes the first woman to supplant herself at No. 1. The only other artist to do so in the 17-year history of Hot Christian Songs is Jordan Smith. Underwood now occupies all the top 3 positions on the chart. At the third position is Underwood's rendition of the Christmas hymn "Silent Night."
The only other artist who has had such a monopoly for one week is Kanye West. West dominated the entire top 10 on the ranking dated Nov. 9, 2019. That week, West's first faith-based album, Jesus Is King, opened atop Top Christian Albums, Top Gospel Albums and the all-genre Billboard 200.
All three songs are taken from Underwood's latest Christmas album. My Gift features a combination of beloved traditional favorites celebrating the spiritual nature of the holiday, as well as several new originals, two of which are written by Underwood, frequent collaborator Brett James ("Jesus, Take the Wheel," "Something In The Water"), and her Cry Pretty co-producer, David Garcia. GRAMMY® Award-winning producer, mixer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Greg Wells produced and arranged the album.
Additionally, Underwood releases a special behind-the-scenes look from the set of the music video for her duet with fellow GRAMMY® Award winner John Legend, watch HERE.
