Horror Flick "The Ring 3" Is Officially In the Works and Is Set to be Directed by F. Javier Gutierrez
Horror movie fans are having a really, REALLY good week this week with news of "Annabelle," "Goosebumps," and the Shining prequel called"Overlook Hotel" all set to hit theaters. The week is about to get even better, because for those who didn't know, "The Ring 3" is happening, and now it officially has a director.
We haven't seen the original "Ring" in twelve years, and it's been nine since fans were treated to "The Ring 2." Paramount is determined not to let this franchise fall by the wayside, and so F. Javier Gutierrez has been signed on to direct the project.
Gutierrez, a Spanish filmmaker, made his directorial debut in 2008 with the film "Before the Fall," which was a Spanish crime-drama. More recently, his name has cropped up with mention of a remake of "The Crow."
We first heard rumors of "The Ring 3" in 2010, when Paramount Pictures promised the world that the franchise would be comprised of three films. The character portrayed by Naomi Watts is likely to be dropped in favor of a storyline more directly in line with the terrorized teen track that seems to do so well in the box office. However, producers may face a bit of a challenge constructing a crux for the movie to revolve around, since the original "haunted VHS tape" storyline is a bit outdated nowadays.
Just because the film has a director, however, does not mean that the film is anywhere near beginning production. No details about a script or cast have been dropped by the studio yet.
