Matt Redman Reflects on the Ministry of the Late Luis Palau
Earlier this year, Luis Palau, passed away at age 86. Palau has been described by some as "the Latino Billy Graham." Over the past half-century, Palau had been able to reach 30 million people in 75 countries for Christ. Worship leader and songwriter Matt Redman has taken the time to reflect and give thanks to God for Palau's life.
Redman recalls the first time he has had ever heard Palau preached. He writes: "I'll always be grateful for that day in a London stadium where, aged 10, I heard Luis Palau preach the good news of a loving Saviour and a perfect Father. I'm just one of the many, many who found Christ after hearing the passionate and powerful words of this wonderful Argentinian evangelist. Fire and passion were the mark of the man. Whether preaching Christ on a factory floor, from a church pulpit, or on a stadium stage Luis always invested his heart and soul into the moment."
In a January 2018, Palau disclosed to ministry supporters and friends he had been diagnosed with late-stage lung cancer, and his illness was terminal. Redman tells of how Palau had never lost his passion for the Gospel thoughout his ministry. "The last time I heard my friend Luis preach his body was battling cancer - and yet nothing could stop him delivering the gospel with urgency. He preached just as passionately that day as he did all those years ago in that London stadium. Fittingly, his message was on the glories of heaven."
Gratitude is what Redman has for Palau. "Though many will feel his loss, we are hugely heartened to know that Luis is now face to face with his beloved Saviour. Thank you Jesus for Luis - and for his wonderful family, who are in our hearts and prayers this day."
