Mario Kart 8 Release Date: Mario Kart 8 Wii U Sales Hit the Roof while Nintendo Nose Dives in the Market
The eighth installment of the Mario Kart 8 franchise came out in May 2014 and managed to become one of the largest successes out of Nintendo. 1.2 million copies of the game were sold within the first four days of release and so far that makes it the fastest Wii U game at the present. As such, the game has managed to sell about 2.82 million copies of the game to date which means that out of the almost 7 million Wii U's sold, about 42 percent of the owners are playing the racer. There is bad news though for parent Nintendo, as they do not seem to be having the same luck.
They have now made headlines as the largest gaming company to have profits and sales numbers go into a nose dive. This has been the case for a while and it was hoped that the release of Mario Kart 8 would help bring relevancy back for the Wii U. However, something entirely strange has happened whereby, Mario Kart is thriving in the market but Nintendo is not and they are behaving like to separate entities. Nintendo managed to lose about 97 million dollars this first quarter, yet they gained $ 84.59 million dollars in the first quarter last year. They are putting on a brave face and saying that they are projecting a profit of about 196 million dollars by the end of the year. Are they just being optimistic or do they actually have a shot at it., time will tell.
There are a few games that the company has set for the next year but they are all at random points. His represents a very dangerous place for them as investor confidence in the developer has all but disappeared. In other news, though, yesterday was the last day for a chance to get a free Wii U game when registering Mario Kart 8. This was part of a promotion that started in April to a conclusion at the end of July
