'Mortal Kombat X' Release Date, New Characters Revealed, Gamescon 2014 Hints
The new Mortal Kombat X is coming from NetherRealm Studios and some of the new characters for the game have reportedly been named. The majority of the questions left unanswered are expected to be revealed at Gamescom 2014 in Cologne, Germany on August 13-17.
Shoryuken confirmed the Gamescon news with a tease in a recent tweet from Boon:
"RT @MK_BigD @noobde When will we find .. new about MKX? Its been a while and no hints =( EB: I won't play GAMES or try to COMpete with you."
New characters to be included are: D'Vorah, Kotal Kahn, Ferra and Torr, Raiden, and Cassie Cage. Cassie Cage (daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade).
Each character will have three different styles of combat with varying strengths and weaknesses. They will cater to a player's specific play style, but without introducing a plethora of new combinations. For example: Cassie Cage has the distinct fighting styles of both her father and mother but has her own move set as well.
The controls have been rumored to be simplified and the animations have been made smoother. The game is set to be clocked in at 60fps, aiding the smooth transitions between moves.
NetherRealm Studios has revealed three stages so far for Mortal Kombat X: the Outworld Marketplace, Snow Forest, and the Cove. Depending on the stage, the characters can interact with various background objects to use as an advantage against their opponents.
NetherRealm Studios released the Mortal Kombat reboot in 2011 and Injustice: Gods Among Us in 2013.
The Mortal Kombat franchise announced Mortal Kombat X at this year's E3 and along with a trailer preview.
Mortal Kombat X story will take place 25 years after the last "Mortal Kombat" title in 2011. Unlike in previous titles, the mainstay characters aren't making a comeback save for Sub-Zero and Scorpion since most of the other main characters have died in the storyline.
Metal-faced mercenary Kano will be playable in Mortal Kombat X, according to new screens from a German magazine. Kano is one of the original Mortal Kombat fighters, having appeared in the first game way back in 1992. Kano was present in the 2011 Mortal Kombat title as well.
Mortal Kombat X is currently set for a June 2015 release.
