Christina Perri to Perform "Burning Gold" on "So You Think You Can Dance", Also See Her Upcoming Tour Dates w/ Demi Lovato
Four years ago, Christina Perri got a recording career when Kathryn McCormick and Billy Bell danced to Perri's Jar of Hearts on So You Think You Can Dance.
Christina Perri is set to perform her new single "Burning Gold" on "So You Think You Can Dance" on Wednesday night at 8pm on FOX.
She will have Kathryn McCormick perform the routine to Burning Gold, along with Season 9 winner Chehon Wespi-Tschopp. Stacey Tookey will choreograph the dance. Perri has a special place for McCormick and Tookey as they helped launch her career when they used her song "Jar of Hearts" on the show four years ago.
"It was my idea to bring in Stacey and Kathryn and have it be sort of an anniversary performance," says the singer/songwriter. "I'm going to have goosebumps for days."
That performance set Perri's music career in motion. "I was nonexistent in the music industry," says Perri, 27. "I didn't have a record deal. I didn't have a contract with managers. I didn't have a lawyer. I was like a million other people in Los Angeles, just trying to figure it out and hoping to get discovered."
A mutual friend heard Perri's rough demo of Jar of Hearts and e-mailed it to Tookey, who asked to use the song on the next week's show. "I had five days to put it all together," says Perri, then a waitress at a Los Angeles cafe. "I had to make up a record label. I had to put it on iTunes."
"Jar of Hearts" would go on to sell 3.8 million downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Perri then signed with Atlantic Records and released her debut album, Lovestrong, in 2011, then followed up with Head or Heart last March. The latest album's first single, "Human", has sold more than 1 million downloads.
Perri is hitting the road this fall on Demi Lovato's 2014 world tour with MKTO as support acts (you can see the tour dates below).
