Leslie Jordan Pays Tribute to Her Grandfather with Her Solo Debut Album "The Agonist"

Leslie Jordan

Leslie Jordan, best known as one-half of the Grammy-nominated duo All Sons & Daughters, releases her solo Americana album, The Agonist. The record is a deeply personal concept album that delves into the life of her estranged grandfather, Robert S. Gott. The album was inspired by a collection of his journals, poetry, and short stories discovered by Jordan's mother after his death. These writings revealed a complex individual, prompting Jordan to explore his story through music.

Produced by Kenneth Pattengale of The Milk Carton Kids, The Agonist features ten tracks that blend Americana and folk influences. The album includes collaborations with artists such as Sandra McCracken and Brittney Spencer. Notable songs include "The Fight," co-written with McCracken, and "Athensville," which reflects on her grandfather's upbringing in Indiana.

Critics have praised The Agonist for its emotional depth and storytelling. The album's exploration of family legacy and personal redemption resonates with listeners, offering a poignant narrative set to compelling melodies.

Jordan supported the album's release with live performances, including a show at the Masonic Cornerstone Grand Hall on April 19 and an album release celebration at Analog at Hutton Hotel on April 30.
