Andrew Ripp Reveals “On the Inside" was Inspired by an Inmate on Death Row

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Andrew Ripp returns with a powerful new single, "On the Inside," a song born from a profoundly moving encounter on death row. The track is available now on all digital platforms.
The inspiration for "On the Inside" began when Ripp's friend Nathan Lee invited him to perform for inmates on death row. There, he met Terry King, a man who has spent over 30 years behind bars. Though Terry may never experience earthly freedom again, his spirit tells a different story-one of redemption, surrender, and a deeper kind of liberty that can't be contained by walls or sentences.
"Though he will never have his freedom here on earth," Ripp shares, "he has found the forever kind... the divine stuff that nobody can take and doesn't need perfection to root, just surrender... he's found freedom on the inside. I went in to play songs and maybe leave some hope, but Terry is the one who was passing out hope that day."
So deeply impacted by Terry's faith and peace, Ripp wrote "On the Inside" to reflect that transformative moment. The result is a soul-stirring anthem of quiet strength, inner healing, and unseen freedom.

The single is more than just a song-it's a tribute to the invisible but powerful work happening in hearts often forgotten. Ripp dedicates the song to Terry:
"Terry, if you see this, I want you to know that I look forward to meeting again one day."
