Pastor John MacArthur Passes Away at 86

Dr. John F. MacArthur, beloved pastor, teacher, author, and founder of Grace to You and The Master's Seminary, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the age of 86. The announcement was made by Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, where Dr. MacArthur faithfully served as senior pastor for more than five decades.
For over 55 years, Pastor MacArthur devoted himself to expository Bible preaching and the equipping of generations of believers in sound doctrine and biblical truth. His sermons, books, and global broadcast ministry Grace to You have reached millions around the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
"Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice knowing that our dear brother and shepherd is now in the presence of the Savior he so faithfully proclaimed," the church stated. "John ran the race with unwavering faithfulness, and he finished well. His life was marked by integrity, courage, and a resolute commitment to God's Word."
Born on June 19, 1939, in Los Angeles, California, MacArthur served as senior pastor of Grace Community Church from 1969 until his retirement from regular preaching in 2024. He was the author of more than 150 books, including the best-selling MacArthur Study Bible, and served as Chancellor Emeritus of The Master's University and Seminary.
MacArthur's ministry was defined by clarity, conviction, and a deep love for the church. He remained a prominent voice for biblical authority, theological conservatism, and spiritual leadership throughout his lifetime.
He is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Patricia, their four children, 15 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Details regarding a memorial service will be announced in the coming days.
