Transformers 5: Not Ready For 2016, Michael Bay Unsure To Be Back
Michael Bay once said that Transformers 3 will be his last of the franchise, but he eventually didn't and went on to direct Transformers 3 and the most recent Transformers 4: Age of Extinction. However, things lately have been quite in the uncertain zone with no plans for a specific release date yet and even producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura stating that Transformers 5 is very much unlikely to be seen in 2016.
Despite the enormous and continuous success of Transformers worldwide, it seems that this and more are not enough to keep Michael Bay at the directing helm of the franchise. During promotions of Transformers 5, Bay was already dropping some hints that he might not come back for the fifth installment. He stated that he wants to start a new stage, a new direction in the movies he wants to make, also adding that there are still a lot of stories he wants to tell. But the biggest surprise was him saying there's more to look into for the new path of Transformers 5, and leaving the fans and media confused when he said all that and more is left for the next director.
However, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura promises that the production team will continue to push through with ideas to keep Michael Bay interested in doing the franchise. It might come as an easy answer to keep Bay in the franchise is to let him take a break from Transformers to do other stuff, as he did in between Transformers 3 and 4 with Pain & Gain.
With Michael Bay also a producer of the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, it also seems likely that he will remain with Transformers as a producer if not the director. Rumors have also pointed to TMNT director Jonathan Liebesman to take over the Transformers director chair, whom Bay worked with on Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.
