Bad Boys 3 Release, Latest News: Martin Lawrence confirms sequel according to Jerry Bruckheimer, but is Will Smith onboard too?
That there will be Bad Boys 3 is almost certain. When it will be shown or when it will even begin filming is another matter. Martin Lawrence who starred as Detective Marcus Lowrey in the 1995 film Bad Boys and in the 2003 sequel Bad Boys II was asked during August 13's episode of Conan whether there is a possibility for a Bad Boys 3 movie any time soon. Lawrence told the host Conan O'Brien: "I believe so, yes. I just talked to Jerry Bruckheimer yesterday and he said it's real; they're working on the script, they're getting close, and it all looks good."
Back in June, when Collider interviewed Jerry Bruckheimer about Bad Boys 3, the producer said, "Well, we're working on an outline right now. Hopefully we'll get a screenplay in the next three months. And that will become a movie I hope." Also in June, Bruckheimer told Digital Spy that screenwriter David Guggenheim is currently working on the storyline for the sequel and that "he's working on an outline right now. Hopefully we'll get him started on a screenplay shortly." He added, "We'd love to get Michael Bay [but] he's very busy right now. Hopefully we can twist his arm and get him in there."
Bad Boys was Michael Bay's directorial debut. He also directed its sequel Bad Boys II. He is however now much in demand both as a director and as a producer. It seems he is fully booked at least until 2016. He may next produce a sequel to the reboot version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and he may be persuaded to do a fifth installment to the highly successful Transformers film series. He may even finally get to do a personal passion project of his own, a documentary about elephant poaching.
And even if Bruckheimer and Lawrence do get a script and even if they succeed in twisting Bay's arm to work on the planned Bad Boys 3 movie, what about Will Smith? He turned down Independence 2 and will also likely not be seen in Men in Black 4. As he said in and interview with Collider, "I don't want to be the sequel guy. I figure I've got about six or seven more years where I can run and jump a little bit and then I'm going butt and gut for the rest of my career. Butt and gut."
