U2 New Album Songs of Innocence Available Now on iTunes; Album Officially Released During Apple's Keynote Event
Apple just revealed yesterday the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus as well as debuting their first wearable tech the Apple Watch. What was one of the more surprising announcements from the event was U2's new album, Songs of Innocence, was announced and released the very same day, and is available for everyone for download on iTunes absolutely free until October 13. This is the band's thirteenth studio album and is under Island record label. Songs of Innocence features eleven tracks.
During the event, Bono along with the rest of U2, also performed 'The Miracle (of Joey Ramone) which is also the lead single for the new album. After U2's performance, Apple CEO Tim Cook went on stage and said, "Wasn't that the most incredible single you ever heard? We would love a whole album of that."
"The question is now, how do we get it to as many people as possible, because that's what our band is all about," Bono said. "I do believe you have over half a billion subscribers to iTunes, so - could you get this to them?" Cook replied, "If we gave it away for free."
In an interview conducted the day before the Apple conference, Gus Wenner of Rolling Stone asked U2 front man on what they wanted to achieve for the new album to which Bono replied, "We wanted to make a very personal album. Let's try to figure out why we wanted to be in a band, the relationships around the band, our friendships, our lovers, our family. The whole album is first journeys - first journeys geographically, spiritually, sexually. And that's hard. But we went there."
The album has been in the works for past two years with producer Danger Mouse, as well as other producers such as Paul Epworth and Ryan Tedder.
