'The Maze Runner' Latest News and Rumors: 'The Maze Runner' A Certified Box Office Hit - Rumored Sequel Scheduled in 2015
"The Maze Runner" is a real show stealer. It debuted over the weekend at $32.5 million. It seems that the studio did succeed in its goal of making another franchise. Critics said that "The Maze Runner" is a combination of all the other great franchise and series in the industry - The Hunger Games, Lost, and Lord of the Flies. "The Maze Runner" is based on a series of books written by James Dashmer. The book is a successful science fiction series that catches the eye of several critics, and of course, 20th Century Fox.
The opening weekend is so successful that Fox already announced its plan for a sequel to the movie. The second installment, "The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials," of what seems to be another successful franchise is going to be released on September 18, 2015.
Not bad for a bunch of teenagers trying to get out of an unsolvable maze while avoiding being killed by the hideous creatures inside it. Lead actor Dylan O'Brien who played the role of Thomas in the movie, beats other well-known Hollywood actors during the opening weekend. Liam Neeson's film, "A Walk Among the Tombstones" came in second with $13.5 million which was below the studio's expectations of $18 million during the opening weekend. "The Maze Runner" joins the ranks of blockbuster hits such as "The Guardians of the Galaxy," "Divergent" and "Hunger Games."
Fans of the book came in full force to support the movie adaptation of " The Maze Runner." "The Maze Runner" was directed by Wes Ball, who reportedly was very nervous during the opening. He told Entertainment Weekly that he "just don't want anything to go wrong." Apparently, they've got it all right. The filming for "The Maze Runner" started back in May 13, 2013 and it ended by July 12, 2013.
