Google To Launch Free Mobile Messaging App In 2015; Software Giant Competing Against WhatsApp, Line, Viber?
WhatsApp has dominated the messaging app circuit for a long time, but Google has now pulled up its sleeve to launch a competitor messaging app for Whatsapp. According to the rumors, the name of the app is expected to be, "What about hangouts?"
Software giant Google Inc plans to launch a mobile messaging app it is likely to test in India and other emerging markets. Google is reportedly in the process of creating its own mobile messaging application, along the same lines as WhatsApp, Line, and Viber.
There's no official confirmation from Google, but according to the sources, the company will release the app next year and it will be free to use.
Apart from the Android ecosystem, the others are using hangouts lately and it asks the users to sign in to their Google accounts. The only upper hand that the rivals of the potential Google's messaging app have is they require just the phone number of the user.
The user does not have to log in to any account as opposed to logging in to the Google Account, each time the user wants to use hangouts. Here is a key difference between the two - Google's new messenger app won't require a Google login.
This could be a smart step by Google in case it wants to get anywhere close to the legacy of other messaging app services like WhatsApp in the market. Most popular Google apps, such as Google+, Gmail, and the Google Play Store, need the user to have a Google account
Google's possible decision to put some effort into a cross-platform, Google-free messaging app may have been influenced by Facebook's acquisition of WhatsApp, and a desire to not lose ground in emerging markets. WhatsApp, for example, has 65 million users in India alone, and Viber's new owner has major international expansion plans too.
As the app will be free for use this sets it apart from WhatsApp, which charges a modest annual fee, and puts it in competition with the free - and feature-packed - Line app. This new app could give Google a fighting chance at staying relevant in a very crowded field. We hope that the new app does wonders to the fortune of Google.
