Dracula Untold: There Are Some Movie Goers Who Were Disappointed With It?
Although many were applauding for the creators and actors in their efforts in the latest American dark fantasy action film "Dracula Untold", there are some movie goers who were disappointed with it. The film was written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless and Gary Shore directed it. The entire film makes an origin story for Count Dracula by showing the story of Vlad the Impaler instead of picking the 1897 Dracula novel by Irish novelist Bram Stoker.
Luke Evans plays the lead role together with Dominic Cooper and Sarah Gadon as supporting cast. On August of last year, the primary photography started in Northern Ireland. This October 10, the film was finally released by Universal Pictures in theatres as well as in IMAX. It is Universal's main intention to make this movie a reboot of the Universal Monsters franchise.
Unfortunately, to some of those who have already seen the movie, they were frustrated with the "Dracula Untold'. Even if the film is not completely terrible to watch because it has a number of exciting visuals, good sound editing and a respectable score, it still lacks some of the key ingredients to be considered as a success. Nevertheless, as a villain origin film, which it claims to be, the film somehow failed.
The biggest problem with this film is that it tried to do away from Vlad Tepes III as a protagonist. Even though they attempt to include Vlad's legacy as the "Vlad the Impaler," they have tried to characterize him as Marty Stu which sounds impossible. The lead character never killed or hurt anyone, except for his wife who pleaded for him to drink her blood before her death.
Ironically, Vlad never become a monster even if he declares himself as Dracula, the son of devil. He is only a monster by name, but never had compromised any of his moral beliefs. Even with the great effort that Game of Throne's Ramin Djawadi to make a decent score, there was still no threat at the end when Vlad introduces himself to Mina in the 21st century. Vlad did not become the character that the audience must be afraid of. There was a clear disconnection between Vlad and the very popular Victorian vampire he believed to have become.
