'Wonder Woman' Warner Bros. Seeks Female Director: A Woman Soon to Raise a Superhero from the Grounds
Warner and Bros. is seek female director for the upcoming film "Wonder Woman." According to the Hollywood Reporter, the studio's move to come up with DC Films similar to that of Marvel's "Avengers" franchise. "Wonder Woman" will have its debut on "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" slated in 2016 after which will star in a solo film on June 2017.
Warner and Bros. may choose from veteran directors as revealed by Collider, enumerating the likes of Kathryn Bigelow of "Zero Dark Thirty", Catherine Hardwicke of "Twilight", Mimi Leder of "Deep Impact", Julie Taymor of "Across the Universe" and Karyn Kusama of "Jennifer's Body". TV directors, Tricia Brock of "The Walking Dead" and Michelle MacLaren of the "Game of Thrones", might also be considered considering their exemplary performance in the field of directing.
Males dominate the superhero films, and the only one directed by a woman was "Punisher: War Zone" through Lexi Alexander. It is high time that Warner Bros. is getting out of the conventional method of producing superhero films as it plans to tap a female director to lead the character of "Wonder Woman" off the grounds.
Collider reported that Sony is also entertaining ideas of getting a female hand in its forthcoming "Spider-Man Universe", however, Kevin Feige of Marvel remains firm not to allow women yet in that sphere. He wantonly dismiss such thoughts of coming up with a female-led film despite the already finished script for "Black Widow" starring Scarlett Johansson.
Wonder Bros. Pictures have chosen an Israeli actress Gal Gadot for the lead role, whose worth has been proven in several films. As Gisele Yashar in "Fast and Furious" the actress said, "I wanted to show that women are empowered and strong, and don't have to be saved by some male hero, but they can take care of themselves using their intelligence and power."
"Wonder Woman" movie will hit theatres in 2017; however, Gal Gadot will join Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman in the 2016 film "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice."
