Carlene Carter Returns with "Carter Girl" on April 8

Carlene Carter returns with her brand new album "Carter Girl" on April 8. Her first album since 2008's "Stronger" finds Carter going back to her family roots by singing a collection of songs from her own Carter Family. Borned as the daughter of music legends Carl Smith and June Carter Cash,Carlene is also the granddaughter of "Mother" Maybelle Carter. Ever since she was young, she has been singing and touring with the Carter Family until she finally stepped out on her own with in 1978. She started her career by trying to steer away from her family tradition in recording a slew of punk rock albums. Though she had some success, her bigger days were still waiting for her in country music. At the beckoning of her stepfather Johnny Cash and country hat act Dwight Yoakam, Carter finally worked with Howie Epstein (of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers fame) to release her debut country release "I Fell in Love." This gave way to a successful run in country music including the no. 3 hit "I Fell in Love" followed by other hits such as "Every Little Thing," "Unbreakable Heart," "Come On Back," "Something Already Gone" and "The Sweetest Thing."
"Carter Girl" finds Carter working with producer Don Was (Bonnie Riatt, Rolling Stones & Lucinda Williams). This will also be Carlene Carter's first album for Rounder Records (Alison Krauss, Carrie Newcomer & Ron Block) after her independently released "Stronger." It will feature Carlene Carter reviving 10 Carter Family songs with two of her own originals. Her originals include the re-cut of her 1990 "Me and the Wildwood Rose" and her newly composed "Loneome Valley 2003." The song is also star studded with celebrities who have come out to join Carter for this historic record. Some notable mentions include: Americana/country chick Elizabeth Cook joins Carter on "Blackie's Gunman," Vince Gill on the aforementioned "Lonesome Valley 2003," Willie Nelson on "Troublesome Waters," Kris Kristoffferson on "Blackjack David," and Helen Carter, Anita Carter, June Carter Cash and Johnny Cash on "I Ain't Gonna Work Tomorrow."
Currently on Carter's own website, www.carlenecarter.net, the debut single from the record "Little Black Train" is already available as a free download.
