Kurt Cobain Biopic Coming for Nirvana Frontman Says Wife Courtney Love
Courtney Love has been discussing a Kurt Cobain biopic since 2007 but in an interview this week that Courtney Love did with the The Philippine Daily Inquirer, she shared that production could begin within the next year.
There will be several people involved in the casting and production process, including his Nirvana bandmates (Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic), along with their daughter, Francis Bean. Love doesn't want to make the final decision on who will play the leading role. "I do have a say in it. So do Frances, and Krist [Novoselic] and Dave [Grohl], for that matter, if it touches on Nirvana - and it will. I am leading the charge because it's time to do this," she shared.
"I don't want to be the person who makes that decision," she said. She doesn't want producers and prospective actors trying to take advantage of her. "Some beautiful blond, tragic, gorgeous actor boy is hitting on me, and why? He wants to play Kurt. So I am moving that over to the agency side. I am not Cecil B. DeMille or anything like that."
In 2010, filmmaker Oren Moverman was drafted to write and direct Cobain's biography, with Love as executive producer. Nothing has come of it and Love didn't mention if Moverman is still a part of the process.
It is surprising to many that it has been 20 years now and no Kurt Cobain biopic has been made. The long-standing feud between widow Courtney Love and Dave Grohl seems to be lifting and that could help things get under way.
The 20th anniversary of Kurt's death just passed (April 5, 1994). He was found in his home, lifeless with a gunshot wound to the head. He left an apparent suicide note, however, there has always been theories of foul play but no concrete evidence has ever come to pass that has overtaken the belief that it was a suicide.
Cobain is still a fixture of music culture twenty years later and a biopic, if done well, would still receive great interest today.
