'House of Cards' Season 3 Netflix Release Date, Spoilers & Cast Updates, Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova Joining Show (VIDEO)
"House of Cards" Season 3 is currently filming for Netflix and fans are hoping to get the inside scoop on the upcoming episodes. Two new cast members have been added to the show for the upcoming season, Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova.
There has been rumors about a Russian conflict in the upcoming season and this could be why Alyokhina and Tolokonnikova from the band Pussy Riot were added as guest stars as they have had conflicts in Russia with their own band. Also, the show was unable to shoot in the official UN headquarters in New York because of a Russian diplomat not agreeing to it. So it looks like real life and fiction could be tightly intertwined in some of the drama of the new season.
Only a small amount of filming for the show is actually done in Washington D.C., as most of the shooting is done in Maryland. Season 3 of "House of Cards" will again film in Maryland. Initially, the filming of the third season of the Netflix series was haulted with troubles over the past few weeks as the producers weren't getting permission from the State of Maryland, but the issue was eventually resolved on April 25.
"House of Cards" Season 3 is expected to be 13 episodes and release to Netflix in February of 2015.
Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) has become the President of the United States and is now the most powerful man in the world. Using tools like lies, manipulation, and murder to get what he has always wanted, viewers are asking one question: will season 3 finally show his downfall?
Show creator Beau Willimon spoke with the New York Times' and hesitantly revealed some spoilers. He said their would be more philosophical turns the show might take in the next season, particularly dealing with Frank Underwood's (Kevin Spacey) jourey to the top. He hinted that Underwood might struggle to find purpose in his life as he reaches his goal of presidency. "What do you do when you're on top of it?" Willimon said. "Who are you? You can no longer say, 'I'm the guy trying to reach the summit. Now, it had to have meaning. It used to be that the meaning was getting there."
Frank's advisor Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly) was brutally hit by a rock to the head in Season 2, so we've yet to see what's next for him. Kelly shared in an interview about his future: "I don't know -- they haven't officially said. And with television contracts, as an actor, when you sign those contracts you sign for a long time. So technically they still own me, but I don't know yet."
"House of Cards" is Netflix's first original series and received some nice validation with it's recent Emmy nomination for "Outstanding Drama Series". This was the first time a program from only a digital platform received a high-profile Emmy nomination.
